May 3 9 a.m. La Vista Verde Trail

Meet at the trailhead on NM 567, just above Taos Junction Bridge for this easy 2.5 mile round trip hike. Sensational views, petroglyphs, and more on our most popular trail.

May 9 Rio Grande Seminar

Rio Bravo Campground in Orilla Verde/ BLM will waive day-use fees for participants 9:30: Streamflow Outlook, Rolf Schmidt-Petersen and Craig Cotton 11: Rio Grande Climate Change Challenges, Dagmar Llewellyn 11:30: National Monument Planning and Values, John Bailey 1 to 5: Geology float with Paul Bauer (bring your own boat!)

May 10 9 a.m. Picuris Trail/Slide Trail loop

Meet at the trailhead at Taos Junction Bridge on NM 570 for this moderate 2.0 mile round trip hike. Spectacular views, history, and archeology!

May 10 is International Migratory Bird Day

Rio Grande Gorge Visitor Center, Pilar 6:30 & 9: Bird walks led by Robert Templeton and Ryan Besser. Meet at the Visitor Center, then a short drive into Orilla Verde for an easy but informative walk. 11: Meet some of our local raptors courtesy of the Santa Fe Raptor Center. Hands-on activities for youth will be available from 7 to 11.

May 10 is also International Astronomy Day

8 p.m. Star Watch at Wild Rivers Geoff Goines will have his telescopes set up in the Wild Rivers Visitor Center parking lot from sunset

on—planets (Saturn’s rings at their best), galaxies and more will be on offer to celebrate International Astronomy Day.

May 17 9 a.m. La Senda del Medio Trail

Meet at the trailhead in Orilla Verde’s Pilar Camp- ground on NM 570 for this easy 2.5 mile round trip hike in the lower gorge. Beautiful views of the area

on one of our newest trails.

May 24 9 a.m. Petaca Point Trail

Meet at the trailhead on NM 567, above Taos Junction Bridge, for this easy 2.5 mile round trip hike along the west rim of the Rio Grande Gorge.

Panoramic views and varied archeological sites.

May 31 9am The Slide Trail/Old 570

Meet at the trailhead just north and east of Taos Junction bridge on old NM 570 for this easy two mile round trip hike. Wonderful views of the Rio Pueblo canyon, petroglyphs, geology in action.


Bring a snack, hat, sunscreen, water and sturdy footwear.
